Rio Ferdinand's fitness level is in doubtThe English Premier League is close to it’s end and the whole nation is preparing for World Cup 2010. It’s well known that the EPL is arguably the most physical of the top leagues in Europe and after a whole season, players are usually very exhausted and prone to injury. In fact quite a disturbing number of English players are currently injured, suffer recurring health issues or are simply not much fit.

Fabio Capello has stated on various occasions that he will take to the finals only those players who are fully fit. For this reason, England’s doctor is personally visiting the training camps of all players and will be checking the fitness levels personally. On May 11th, Capello will announce the provision 30-man squad which will be travelling to South Africa.

Among the players with injury concerns is of course Wayne Rooney who has just returned against Sunderland and is expected to play the last game of the season this weekend against Stoke. Other high profile players include his team mates Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville and Owen Hargreaves. The latter has been out of competitive action for 18 months. The England’s medical team will be visiting Aaron Lennon, Ledley King as well as Bobby Zamora.

Capello will simply not take chances and needs a fully fit squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.
