Inter score against JuventusThe Italian derby has just finished, Inter beat Juventus 2-0. The game has been in the limelight as both teams needed a win to keep on fighting for their objectives. Juventus needed a win to obtain the fourth spot in the league which would mean Champions League whilst Inter needed the win to keep on challenging for the title.

The match started at 20.45 at San Siro in front of around 45,000 fans. Against all odds Juventus started on the attack with an early shot by Alex Del Piero and appeared to be the best team on the pitch. The match became a nervous one with fouls being committed on both ends. The referee started to loose control of the match when in the 18th minute he yellow carded Samuel and Iaquinta, with Iaqunita’s yellow card being unfair. Two minutes later it was Melo’s turn to get yellow carded. The 21st minute was the turning point of the match, Tiago Motta committed a foul and got rightly yellow carded but for an unknown reason even Sissoko got yellow carded. In the meantime Juventus kept showing their superiority. In the 37th minute Sissoko got a second yellow card for a minor foul and therefore got sent off. Even though a man less Juventus managed to keep a clean sheet till the end of the half.

The second half started off with Inter trying to find the lead. They tried in all ways but were rarely dangerous in the first 25 minutes of the half. In the 75th minute Maicon luckily received the ball from a rebound and let a lobbed shot which beat Buffon. After this goal, even though with a man less, Juventus moved on the attack in search of an equalizer but by doing so they exposed themselves to Inter’s counter attacks. Deep into extra time Inter managed to find the second goal through Samuel Eto’o.  The match finished with a 2-0 win for Inter, but no one will ever know what would have happened if the referee didn’t send of Sissoko by mistake.

Today’s result maintains Inter’s hopes on the winning the league alive but they still have to hope in a Roma slip. With today’s result Inter are topping the Serie A table by 2 points but having played 1 more match then Roma. On the other hand even though Juventus lost, they should feel proud of their performance as it was a very brave and determined performance. The main reason why they lost was the referee’s blunder.
