Fulham vs Manchester United Match Report thumbnail

An impressive performance by Fulham gained them a point against favourites Manchester United. Although Manchester United had lost their last two encounters against Fulham at Craven Cottage everyone was expecting the Red Devils to take the three points. Manchester United started off on the attack with young Fulham keeper, David Stockdale, confirming last week’s convincing performance against Bolton. The Red Devils opened the score in the eleventh minute when Paul Scholes let out a razor sharp shot from outside the big box, young Stockdale could only touch the ball. After the goal Manchester United kept enjoying possession but as the end of the half was closing in Fulham start playing more attacking football. Dickson Etuhu almost scored as he missed a sitter, his first shot was parried by Van Der Sar from the rebound he tried a second time but the Dutch keeper touched the ball to a corner.

In the second half the Londoners kept pushing for an equalizer that arrived in the 57th minute. Bobby Zamora ran deep with the ball and passed back in the middle of the box were he found Simon Davies ready to put the ball in the net. After the equalizer both teams upped their performances in search for a second goal that would have meant three points. Manchester United were lucky to score a second goal in the 84th minute when Hangeland put the ball into his own net from a Manchester United corner. The Red Devils could have closed the match three minutes later when Damian Duff touched the ball with his hand in the box. Nani took the penalty kick but it was well saved by Stockdale. Boosted by Stockdale’s save Fulham went back on the attack in search for an equalizer that arrived in the 90th minute when a Fulham corner kick was headed in by Hangeland. That made up for the Norwegian’s previous mistake. After the goal they played four minutes of extra time in which United tried to find a winner unsuccessfully.
