Jose Mourinho at Champions League Semi-FinalSince his move to Italy, Mourinho never had a great relationship with the Italian Press. However after Inter Milan’s last game in the Champions League against Barcelona, most of the Italian newspapers praised the talented and controversial manager. The Nerazzurri managed to reach the final, by overcoming the reigning champions with a convincing aggregate score of 3-2. It wasn’t an easy 2 legged game by no means, especially the return match at Camp Nou. Inter had to play most game with 10 players, but managed nevertheless to tame Barcelona with a masterclass display in defence.

Italian newspapers praised Mourinho’s tactical shrewdness. After-match headlines included “The hero is Jose. Never before was he so special” and “The man who has changed Inter. Mourinho gives the club a Champions final after 38 years, with one of the most exceptional defensive displays ever seen at that level” amongst others.

Mourinho has already won the Scudetto with Inter during his first season in Italy and will be looking forward to add another trophy to his collection, that of winning the Champions League final this year in Spain. Inter’s president Massimo Moratti had stated on various occasions that Mourinho was hired to guide Inter to win the Champions League. Inter Milan will be slight favourities in the final, which is to be played against Bayern Munich, who overcome Lyon without too much difficulty in their own semi-final.
