Jose Mourinho - Inter vs Barcelona (Champions League)There’s been a lot of speculation before the first leg of the Champions League semi-final: that Messi is unstoppable, that Barcelona are currently the best team in the World and even bookmakers picked Barcelona as favourities for this delicate first tie at San Siro. Guess what? Inter dominated almost throughout the game, and Messi was practically nowhere to be seen!

Inter did indeed start the game brightly and had the first ruling go against them, when Milito was wrongly flaged for offside whilst having only the keeper to beat. Pedro did open the score for Barcelona first, but Inter did not struggle much to turn the game around. In fact before half time, the score was even again, thanks to Wesley Sneijder. Another two goals followed after the interval, first goal by Maicon just three minutes into the second half and last goal by Diego Milito.

Barcelona did try to react and get on the scoresheet again, but Inter was well determined not to let Barcelona back in the game and preserve a very precious 3-1 result. Mourinho has proved once again that he’s a master football tactician. He got everything right, included the decision not to water San Siro’s pitch before the game so as not to favour Barcelona’s style of play.

Will we see a different game in Barcelona? Can an overrated Messi really make a difference at home? He does fail to perform with Argentina and Mourinho’s Inter seem able to neutralize his rare moments of brilliance too!
